Baby Talk: Personal

If you follow my blog, you know that Mike & I announced that we are expecting several weeks ago. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m not into surprises. I used to carefully unwrap my Christmas presents when my parents weren’t looking, because I just couldn’t take the suspense. Yep, I was that kid. So you can imagine how much it was just killing me to have to wait from September to January to find out if this baby was a boy or girl.

The day finally arrived, and we are so happy to announce that we are having a boy! I’m seeing guitar lessons & Little League in our future.

Here’s a photo of our little guy:

Of course everyone’s next question is “what’s his name?” Oh my. What a process it was for Mike & I to agree on a name. It was weeks until we came to a conclusion. Of course, that conclusion was basically Mike informing me that he needed to name our baby if he was a boy. I could choose a girl name, but he insisted on making sure he chose a boy name so it wouldn’t be wimpy ;) Such a typical guy!  I already knew I wanted our first son’s middle name to be after his dad. So after much, much discussion Mike came up with a name we both loved,

Lincoln Michael.

Why I liked Lincoln:

-It’s unique! I’m not a fan of overly popular names. I’ve always loved having an uncommon one. (You don’t meet a Heidi every day!) I didn’t want him to be one of 5 in his 1st grade class with the latest trendy name.

-The obvious historical reference makes the name sound strong and successful.

-I’m a huge lover of names that sound old-fashioned and modern at the same time.

Why Mike chose Lincoln:

(This is a direct quote) “Because it sounds like a surfer or a guitar player, and it’s just an all-around good boy name.” (Did I mention Mike surfs & plays guitar?)

While our priorities for names were quite different, we were finally able to find something that made us both happy! Now I just have to wait until May to finally meet him!
